How can I control the level of sugar in the blood?

Use a blood sugar meter (also called a glucose meter) or a continuous glucose monitor (MCG) to monitor blood sugar. A blood sugar meter measures the amount of sugar in a small blood sample, usually from the tips of your fingers. The MCG uses a sensor inserted under the skin to measure blood sugar every few minutes. If you are using CGM, you will still need to do a daily blood sugar test to ensure the accuracy of your CGM readings.

When should I check my blood sugar level?
The number of times your blood sugar level is checked depends on your diabetes and whether you are taking any diabetes medication.

Typical times to check your blood sugar level include:

When you first wake up, before eating or drinking.
Before the meal.
Two hours after the meal.
At bedtime.
If you have type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes, have taken insulin, or often have low blood sugar, your doctor may want to check your blood sugar level more than usual, such as before and after physically active.
